Making Baby Food

Making your own baby food is a growing trend, and one of the best things (next to breastfeeding) you can do for your little one’s nutrition! Using fresh ingredients with no preservatives gives them a real taste for flavors, gets them excited about what they are eating and most important they receive all of the nutrients each food item has to offer if you prepare the meals correctly.

Making food takes a little more time, but not much if you plan meals, buy fresh and get creative!

There are so many more options that your child can explore than what is pre-packaged on a shelf.  Some of Astaire’s first favorite foods included Plain Garlic Hummus and Mashed Avocado!

i would love some more info on this. Right now George is getting a lot of sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, and bananas. Any new info is appreciated.

In my experience, I started with color rich vegetables and worked my way to the others. For example, Greens to Oranges to Yellow…the lighter the color the sweeter the veggie in most cases. So of course they tend to like them more. Try some green things! Frozen sweet peas are an easy one. You just steam them, and blend- adding a bit of the steaming water to make the desired consistency. For something that requires little prep time-and can be thrown in a diaper bag for on the go cut open a ripe avocado and drag the spoon right across it or mash it up even more in a bowl into “baby guacamole” You can add garlic (or not) but beware- babies get garlic breath too!
